German bunker
The Chiaravalle bunker, on Via Puccini, is a tangible testimony to the dark times of the Second World War: composed of two corridors connecting to a central room, it was built as a shelter from the bombings, but was intended primarily for the German military. Through the narrow door, which had to be lowered to enter, one immerses oneself in a labyrinth of narrow, low corridors, designed to protect soldiers from enemy bombing and incursions. It was erected under the command of the German Todt and, in the end, exploited only once during an air raid alert. Tons of concrete and railway tracks were used to build it.
