1° Maggio Park
The 1° Maggio Natural Park is one of Chiaravalle's landmarks, the result of a long administrative process and the joint efforts of technicians, volunteers and citizens. Its creation dates back to the 1970s, a period when local urban planning was undergoing major changes. With the introduction of the Specific Variation to the 1974 Master Plan, the Municipality launched a new planning model, aimed at protecting green spaces and complying with urban planning standards. This made it possible to acquire areas for parks, schools, sports facilities and public services, reversing years of disorderly urbanisation. The 1° Maggio Park was created thanks to these new regulations: developers ceded over 60,000 square metres of land to the municipality, partly free of charge and partly at an agreed price, allowing the creation of a large green area for the community. The creation of the park involved numerous volunteers, municipal technicians and citizens who contributed to the modelling of the land, the construction of the lake and the planting of hundreds of trees. Many trees were donated by the State Forestry Corps, while others were saved from previous felling or recovered from other areas of the territory. The central lake, with its small island, was one of the most complex and significant elements to create. Thanks to the manual labour of volunteers and ingenious irrigation systems, the vegetation took root and began to grow luxuriantly. Over the years, the park has been enriched with fauna such as swans, ducks and other birds donated by citizens and organisations such as the Cervia Nature Park. Since 1978, the park has also been the venue for the traditional May Day Festival, an event that has helped to make this place a real meeting point for the community. Today, Parco 1° Maggio is a precious natural space, born of a forward-thinking urban vision and extraordinary collective commitment. Its history is an example of how collaboration between institutions and citizens can generate a common good that is destined to last over time.
