Old hospital
Where the Comprehensive Institute “Maria Montessori” stands today, the Chiaravalle hospital named after the Prince of Piedmont was once located. The history of the Chiaravalle health service dates back to 1754, when Cardinal Nereo Corsini granted the institution of the local doctor, that is, someone who provided free healthcare to the poor and, in exchange for payments established by a fee schedule, to other citizens. The hospital itself began to take shape in the ‘40s and was inaugurated in 1857. Between 1929 and 1934 it underwent restoration work which made it one of the best in the province of Ancona. During the war, on January 17, 1944, it suffered significant damage due to bombing by Allied troops, and 34 victims were later counted under its rubble. Much of the equipment was taken away by the Germans, who then used the hospital premises to hide the weapons.
